How to find the Oktoberfest

The venue for Oktoberfest is the Theresienwiese, called “die Wiesn” in Bavarian, which is around 40 hectares in size and which leads to the foot of the Bavaria statue. It is located in the Ludwigsvorstadt borough of Munich, south-west of the main train station (Hauptbahnhof).

The easiest way to get to Oktoberfest is by public transport.

U-Bahn (underground):

  • Theresienwiese and Schwanthalerhöhe (both lines U4/U5)
Plan your journey: Where possible, find alternative forms of transport to underground lines U4 and U5 andTheresienwiese station. If you are arriving into the central railway station, you can also walk to the Oktober- fest. If you are travelling on the underground from the west, get off at Schwanthaler Höhe if possible.
  • Goetheplatz and Poccistraße (both lines U3/U6)

S-Bahn: Hackerbrücke

Tram: Straßenbahn (Tram) 18 und 19, stops: Holzapfelstraße and Hermann-Lingg-Straße.

During Oktoberfest, U-Bahn lines U4 and U5 run more frequently than usual. Nevertheless, the carriages are often overcrowded. The Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund (MVV) [transport company] recommends keeping out of the way by using the other lines.

During the Oktoberfest there are almost no parking spaces for private cars directly on site.
